The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words –Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “Life Energy”. So Reiki is actually “Spiritually guided life force energy”. This tradition was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century as a result of his research, experience and dedication.
Reiki is an energy healing treatment that works holistically, on the whole body, mind and spirit. Not a system of religious beliefs. Reiki is simply a relaxing treatment whereas natural healing vibrations are transmitted through a Reiki Practitioner to the body of the recipient. The purpose of a Reiki treatment is to relieve stress and pain, induce relaxation, release emotional blockages, accelerate natural healing, balance a subtle bodies energies and support other medical modalities including traditional therapies.
Today, Reiki education is offered free of charge in more than 800 American Hospitals as a means to accelerate the healing process and to alleviate pain.
Reiki is taught by Reiki Masters/Teachers, who have trained in the tradition passed on, in person, from Master to student. Students go through a process of initiation/attunement to the Reiki Energy. They are them able to treat themselves and others, not only from a personal and emotional perspective, but also as an aid to individual development and spiritual growth.
